COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
INTERRUPTER, GROUND FAULT, TWO-POLE, THREE-WIRE
HOSPITAL GRADE, 20-AMPERE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
commercial item description for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE. This commercial item description (CID) covers the general requirements for a 20-ampere
hospital grade ground fault interrupter. Ground fault interrupters covered by this CID are intended for
commercial/industrial applications.
2. CLASSIFICATION/PART OR IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (PIN). This CID uses a classification
system that is included in the PIN as shown in the following example (see 7.1).

3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
3.1 Interface and physical dimensions. Ground fault interrupters supplied to this CID shall be as specified
herein and shall meet the requirements of UL 943 for class A ground fault interrupters and the hospital
grade requirements as called out in UL 498 (see figure 1).
3.2. Ampere rating. The ampere rating shall be 20 amperes maximum.
3.3 Voltage rating. The voltage rating shall be 125 V ac maximum.
3.4 Frequency rating. The frequency rating shall be 60 Hz.
3.5 Trip threshold. This ground fault interrupter shall trip when a fault current to ground is 4-6 mA
minimum.
